The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit. Be patient and stay the course. – Fabienne Fredrickson

Winter gardening is all about harvesting crops all winter long that were planted back in the summer and fall. Think: Kale, spinach, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, and garlic.

Now that we’ve whetted your appetite from a culinary perspective, let’s talk about your business! The “seeds” that you planted during the summer are going to germinate and come to fruition in December.

This also holds true for what you do in your business this month, as well. September is such a pivotal month on the calendar for both adults and children alike. School is back in session and adults are back in their business mindset again. Business owners begin to think ahead to the end of the year and what they need to do in order to finish the year strong, especially when it comes to sales and revenue.

However, they also look back at the year in its entirety. They reflect on everything they’ve accomplished in their business, again especially around their revenue. They ask themselves how they’re feeling about their sales goals. Will they meet, and perhaps even exceed, them? Or, will they fall short of meeting these hugely important targets they’ve set for their business?

And what about the communications piece of their business? How we communicate what we do and the pain points we solve for our target audience is imperative. If we’re not communicating in an effectual and memorable manner, we’ll quickly be forgotten about and lost in the shuffle.

September and October are truly the months where we as business owners must act purposefully and strategically when it comes to sales and marketing if we’re going to finish the year strong. Business starts to slow down in November as the holiday season quickly approaches. It goes without saying that we need to keep having these vital sales conversations as the year winds down.

But it becomes more challenging to stand out during the holiday season. Particularly given that many people will opt to wait until the new year before making key decisions or purchases.

So, during these critical months, we invite you to really examine your communications and see if it’s meeting your needs. Is it hitting the mark, or is it falling short? What are you sharing and how often are you sharing? Specifically, are you sharing YOUR unique gifts and strengths with the world?
