The mess on my desk is causing clutter in my mind. My desk is small to begin with and I am usually an organized person. Yes, some would say I have a way of being an organized mess, but none the less ORGANIZED being the optimal word here.

But somehow my desk has gotten away on me. It is piled high with papers and business cards that need to be filed and acted on. Some need immediate attention, but most are for follow up or filing.

The mess on my desk keeps growing and now I find that it is consuming other parts of my office, such as the floor. Which is kind of scary, because most of the time the stuff on the floor is meant for recycling.

Oh, and the kitchen table has started to take on it’s very own impression of the mess on my desk. It has piles of papers for taxes and my file box seemed to grow legs and make its way down there as well.

Okay, time to get a grip!

Does this story sound familiar to you? Do you find that there are more important things to do than filing and organizing, like feeding your family and meeting clients? I know…just never enough time and certainly not enough of me to go around! UUGH!!

When my desk gets like this, it interferes with progress and causes a lot of chaos in my head. I need a clear space to work in to be productive. Do you feel the same way? I often feel like it creates excuses for me as well. It’s a whole defeatist mindset I tell you!

Okay, enough of my silliness, time to clean up and get the clutter off my desk and out of my head. Time to organize myself and make a plan before the squirrels show up again. Yes, squirrels…do you have them too? How do you stay focused when they are so darn interesting?

Oh, yeah…back to my desk. My point in telling you all of this is just to let you know you are not alone. It happens to all of us. We get distracted, we get busy, then suddenly things start piling up and we need to take some time to re-organize and start fresh because the clutter gets in the way of clear thinking.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to start tomorrow with a clear mind and a clean desk? Well, I can do at least one of these. It is in my power to clean up the mess on my desk, that I know for certain. The clear mind…that is a work in progress every day, but I am certain less clutter will help.

Time to clear space in my head for what’s new and exciting. New connections, new programs, new business, new clients, and new opportunities. Time to look at the big picture and see what’s next on my agenda once AFTER I clear the mess on my desk.

If you are ready to clear the clutter and plan for the big picture then you might enjoy a strategy session where we dive into the idea process and work on your next big thing.
