WOW! Yes, Eagles fans it was an epic game! Incredible highlights from beginning to end. Lots of records made and broken by this underestimated underdog team. Lots of lessons to be learned too.
Here are a few of my favorite takeaways from the game that can be applied not only to business but life as well.
- Don’t underestimate a team that understands the importance of teamwork.
Even when you are a team of one, working toward a common goal with those who support you gets you closer to what you want. As a small business owner or a parent, you know how important it is to call on others for support from time to time to help you get things done. When you rely on the people who know their jobs and know how to support you, you move closer to your goals with ever step.
- A team that is all about practice knows how to show up on game day.
Repetition and consistency through practice makes you stronger. It prepares you for what needs to get done and helps you anticipate hurdles you might face along the way. Practice also keeps you mentally alert with a heightened awareness of what you are capable of and the limits you can push. Practice is the best way to prepare for the game!
- If you think about what the other team is doing you’ve lost focus on what you should be doing.
Don’t worry about what the other guy is doing, run your own game. Love this! All too often we get wrapped up in what our competitors are doing, and we lose sight of what we need to do to stay in the game. Yes, it’s good to study the competition, but come game day it’s all about your game plan, not theirs.
- Stick with what works, but don’t be afraid to try something new.
You know what I am talking about here, the catch that put Nick Foles in the history books as the only quarterback in NFL history to throw and catch a touchdown in a Super Bowl. BOOM! No one saw that coming, especially after Brady tried something similar and failed. Yes, sometimes you try something, and it fails. But when it all goes right, WOW, one for the history books! Don’t be afraid to try something new, but practice it first to get the kinks out and build confidence.
I am certain there are plenty more examples from yesterday’s game that we can all learn from, but now it’s time to celebrate. Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles, NFL Super Bowl LII Champions!
