A fourth-generation Educator, Chip Baker has been teaching and coaching for over 20 years. He is the Creator of Chip Baker – The Success Chronicles, a YouTube channel/podcast that interviews people from all walks of life about success. Three-time bestselling Author of Growing Through Your Go Through, Effective Conversation to Ignite Relationships and Suited for Success Vol. 2 and Creator of the Chip Baker – Character Development Program, Chip lives by these words: “Live. Learn. Serve. Inspire. Go get it!”
Chip and I share numerous connections through social media and that is how we first met. Chip reached out to me through Twitter and invited me to join him for a podcast episode. Since then we’ve connected several times and Chip was kind enough to provide an early review of my new book 30 Second Success: Ditch the pitch and start connecting.
With a background in education and his work with The Success Chronicles, Chip attributes much of his success to his network. He says, “Life moves at the speed of our relationships and the more quality relationships that we have in our life, the better off we are.” What a great perspective!
Chip purposes to connect with people and draws people in. His criteria for connecting… hanging around good genuine people that he can learn from. He feels that it’s important to surround yourself with people that will help you level up. Being an educator, Chip considers himself an avid lifelong learner. His desire is to be the best version of himself so that he can help others, and this is so very obvious in the work he does.
Social media is Chip’s favorite way to connect with people. He says “it’s important to make social media social”. He’s on all platforms because he doesn’t want to leave anyone behind. If you want the positive inspiration he shares regularly, he doesn’t want there to be any excuses for you to miss out.
Referrals are great! Chip sees them as a blessing. He knows people won’t refer you unless you are referable. For people to think highly enough of him to refer him to someone else means a lot to Chip.
Asking people for referrals and to join him on his podcast is important to Chip as well. He is a firm believer in asking people for what you want, the worst they can do is say “no”, nothing changes. He’s also a firm believer that people are more likely to say “yes” when you add value to them. He says that his goal is to help you as much as he can… his goal is to “out give you”.
When you have good people who are doing good things, you need to do your part to support them. The good you do comes back to you when you don’t expect it.
Chip has had the opportunity to interview several people that he thought would never say yes, and they did. Chip shares the story of how he got the opportunity to interview Olympian, Carl Lewis. He says if he hadn’t gotten out of his comfort zone and just simply asked, it would never have happened.
Counting himself blessed, Chip has connected with several groups of people support his work and in turn he supports theirs. He says, “When you give out good you get good in return.” He was honored to have his story included in Suited for Success Vol. 2 along with 24 other men sharing their success stories. These men stay connected and continue to support one another. He lists a number of people, including my friends, The 4 Chicks Chatting, as part of his support system which continuously keeps growing.
Chip’s new project is a book called The Formula Chart For Life. He shares how growing up he always struggled with math. He finally figured out that all he had to do was plug the information into the formulas and he’d get the answers that he needed. A few years ago, he was blessed to teach a Chemistry class which is rich in formulas. He realized that life has formulas too, so he started to compile them into a new book. Here’s just one example: Maximum Effort x Consistency x A Positive Attitude = Success
As a Coach, Chip is very much in tune with creating an atmosphere of success for his athletes. He says, success starts with him being the example. He believes deeply that actions speak louder than words. Chip strives to create an environment that is centered on non-judgement, growth mindset, and hard work. He knows that this environment leads to maximum growth.
Doing good, treating each other right, and taking care of business…that’s the fundamental focus in this coach’s playbook.
