This week we are diving into the last of the building your brand puzzle, initiative. Think about things you have done or would like to do that others might not have thought of or pursued yet. Think about your ability to see things differently or your vision for your business that seems so different others have never thought of it or tried it themselves.

Initiative is the ability to assess and initiate things independently. It is the power or opportunity to act or take charge before others do.

How many times have you had a brilliant idea, but you didn’t act on it because you were busy, you were distracted by all the things that you needed to accomplish in that moment and forgot to write it down, or your inner critic convinced you that the timing wasn’t right? Weeks later you come to find that someone else has had the same brilliant idea and is all over it and now your ideal client has hired someone else and no longer has a need for your services. Your moment has passed.

This happens a lot to business owners. We have amazing ideas and thoughts that could truly transform our businesses if we just acted on them. Taking the initiative is all part of your creative side, your ability to act on your ideas comes from a place of creativity.

One thing to remember is that not all ideas are good for your brand, you need to be discerning. Time and time again I’ve seen many business owners stray from their brand with a brilliant idea or a request for additional service that are not in their wheelhouse. This is where the ability to assess and initiate comes in. Focusing on what makes sense for your brand and then taking swift action can mean all the difference to the growth and development of your business.

How do you assess ideas and opportunities? Do you have a system in place to help you record and review your ideas? I use Eventbrite on my phone to record ideas. It’s an easy app where I can track my ideas and any insights I’ve had about them. Getting your thoughts out of your brain and somewhere that you can see them is important, this helps you determine if and how to act.

Initiative is about taking inspired action before others do. Putting yourself out there, sharing your vision, and finding new and innovative ways for people to recognize your brand immediately is a direct result of your willingness to act. After all, immediate brand recognition is what we want. Be purposeful, be inspired, act on the ideas that align with your brand and build your brand recognition.
