30 Years Today, we said yes! Today I celebrate my 30th wedding anniversary with the love of my life, my best friend, my gift from God, the father of my two amazing children, grandfather to my two beautiful grandchildren, keeper of my secrets, encourager of my dreams, and the one I wish to spend all the days of my life with.

Yes, we’ve had our share of trials, but with trials comes growth, discovery, renewed strength, fortified faith, and deep deep love. We have laughed, cried, rejoiced, mourned, and celebrated life together. We’ve been blessed by family and friends who’ve come and gone and by many who’ve left a lasting impression on our lives.

I recently read that in order to have a lasting marriage you need to be willing to fall in love with the same person over and over again. I am happy to say I’ve been having a love affair with the same man since 1983. I fall deeper and deeper in love with him every day.

When young couples find out how long we’ve been married they ask us how we’ve done it and what kind of advice we have to offer. We’ve been blessed to pass the following wisdom on and we hope it will be a blessing to those of you who read it here today:

  • Marriage is forever.
  • Always be truthful.
  • Always be kind.
  • Dream together.
  • Make time for one another when kids come along.
  • Put each other 1st only after God.
  • Laugh together.
  • Cry together.
  • Sometimes laugh until you cry together.
  • Hold hands.
  • Never go to bed angry.
  • Be willing to forgive.
  • Forgiving means forgetting.
  • Listen to each other, even when you aren’t saying anything.
  • Always say “I love you”, it may be the last thing you say.
  • When things get tough, and they will, get on your knees and pray together.
  • When things get better, and they will, get on your knees and pray together.

And just for the fellas my sweet husband has this one piece of advice that he personally shares, “The only two words you will ever need to know to keep a happy wife are ‘Yes dear.’” He says this with a wink and a giggle. (He’s a funny guy!)

30 Years Today! I can’t wait to see what the next 30 bring!! Happy Anniversary honey, I love you!

May you be blessed to know deep enduring love, and may your marriage be filled with love, laughter, and joy beyond your imagination. We’d love to celebrate with you! Tell us how long you’ve been married in the comments below, we’d love to share your joy and recognize you for your steadfast commitment to love, honor, and cherish one another. Be blessed!
